Dear Parents,

As we begin our new school year – I thank you, returning families, for remaining committed to St. Theresa School!  If you are a new family, I thank you for choosing St. Theresa School!

Our teachers and staff have been working with great diligence and love in order to prepare the classrooms and school as a place for continued excellence in learning.  We are ready to welcome you and your child(ren), to walk this journey of education together as partners with you in faith.

I look forward to meeting you at our Back-To-School Night (for parents only) on September 11 at 7 PM.  We will begin with a brief memorial prayer service as a school family.

It would be remiss of me if I did not include some words concerning current events in the Middle East.

Pope Francis has called on all Catholics to pray for peace this Saturday, September 7.

The Holy Father is asking Catholics and people of all faiths to join together on the vigil of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (September 8) – for a day of fasting and prayer for peace in Syria.

In his Sunday audience, Pope Francis said: “All men and women of good will are bound by the task of pursuing peace. I make a forceful and urgent call to the entire Catholic Church, and also to every Christian of other confessions, as well as to followers of every religion and to those brothers and sisters who do not believe: peace is a good which overcomes every barrier because it belongs all of humanity!”

What is a small act of fasting or a prayer that you and your family can offer in solidarity with our suffering families… those who remain in Syria and the 2 million-plus who are now refugees in Turkey and other countries?  Love will inspire us to be creative and courageous… perhaps a complaint withheld, a quiet smile given to a difficult co-worker, a positive word offered to someone…a prayer together before bedtime or a meal…

With you in prayer and sacrifice, Sr. Theresa and all the Salesian Sisters

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love.
Where there is injury, pardon.
Where there is doubt, faith.
Where there is despair, hope.
Where there is darkness, light.
Where there is sadness, joy…
— St. Francis of Assisi

I ask a small favor: if you have a dog or cat, please leave your pet in the car at drop-off and pick-up as a pre-caution against allergies and for safety.  Thank you for your understanding.
